Ādam and Iblīs

There follows the account of Ādam (peace be upon him) and Iblīs. This is the first sūrah, and the first man upon this earth: the scene is being set between truth and bāṭil. Iblīs does not prostrate; and so the whole account proceeds, and he becomes malʿūn, rejected, a sworn enemy.

Allah is telling us, at the very beginning of the Qur'an: know this — that this was your forefather, and this was his enemy. Do not now take him as a friend; take him rather as an enemy, for this is what occurred at your very origin. The malāʾikah are of course mentioned there.
