He Does Not Burden a Soul

Sūrat al-Baqarah having treated of ṣalāh, zakāh, fasting, Hajj, jihād, charity, ribā, economics, ṭalāq, ʿiddah and nikāḥ, the sūrah closes with Allah (swt) saying lā yukallifu Allāhu nafsan illā wusʿahā. That bears upon everything before it.

Allah will not hold a man answerable for what he has no power to do. A blind man can never be compelled to look at a thing and punished if he does not. Whatever Allah has charged us with is what we can do and should be able to do. Even in fasting Allah has given dispensations: if a man travels and cannot fast, he need not, and may make it up later; if he is ill and cannot fast, he may make it up later. There are dispensations, for Allah would not place upon people a burden they cannot bear.
