No Blame on You Today

He said: no reproach on you this day. May Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) entered Makkah, he entered it victorious — without any parades, without any national anthem, without any red carpet, without any motorcade, without any pride. Instead of riding in on his horse or camel with his chest out, carrying his spear, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) entered Makkah bowing in sujūd to Allah (swt) on his camel, until his beard was touching the back of the camel — with tawāḍuʿ, humility, and with sakīnah, calm.

He reached the Kaʿbah and stood at its door, with the people of Quraysh surrounding him — his enemies for years and years, now under his sword. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked them: what do you think I will do with you? They said: a noble brother, and the son of a noble brother. He said: I will say to you what Yūsuf said to his brothers — I am going to tell you just what Yūsuf told his brothers: lā tathrība ʿalaykumu al-yawm — today there is no blame on you. Idhhabū fa-antumu al-ṭulaqāʾ — go, you are free.
