Did I Not Tell You?
فَلَمَّآ أَن جَآءَ ٱلْبَشِيرُ أَلْقَىٰهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦ فَٱرْتَدَّ بَصِيرًا ۖ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
“So, when came the man with good news, he put it (the shirt) on his face, and he turned into a sighted man. He (Ya‘qūb) said, “Did I not tell you that I know from Allah what you do not know?”” (12:96)
Then, when the bearer of the good news arrived, he cast the shirt over his face, and he became clear-sighted. He said: did I not say to you that I know from Allah what you do not know?
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَبَانَا ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا خَـٰطِـِٔينَ
“They said, “Our father, pray to Allah to forgive us our sins. Surely, we have been guilty.”” (12:97)
And now they realised their mistake again. They said: O our father, ask forgiveness from Allah for our sins; indeed, we have been sinners.
قَالَ سَوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
“He said, “I shall pray to my Lord to forgive you. Surely, He is the Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.”” (12:98)
He said: I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you; truly, He alone is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
