Section 24 of 36 · Lives of the Prophets
We Showed Him All Our Signs
وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَىٰ قَالَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ فَٱجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّا نُخْلِفُهُۥ نَحْنُ وَلَآ أَنتَ مَكَانًا سُوًى
“And We showed him (Pharaoh) all Our signs, yet he rejected and refused. Said he, “Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your sorcery, O Mūsā? We will, then, bring to you a similar sorcery. So, make an appointment between you and us for an even place, not to be backed out, neither by us nor by you.”” (20:56–58)
Allah (swt) says: and indeed We showed him all Our signs, yet he denied and refused. He said: have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Mūsā? So he accused Mūsā of trying to take over the government and drive them out of the land. This is what he accused Mūsā of doing — li-tukhrijanā min arḍinā — he wants to drive us out of our land, take over the government and kick us out. He said: you want to do that with your magic? We have stronger magic than yours. We are going to bring you magic like it, and better. So let there be an appointed time.
