Five Benefits of Travel

And look at the travelling of Mūsā. Allah (swt) made Mūsā travel out of Egypt. Imam al-Shāfiʿī says:

Tagharrab ʿan al-awṭāni fī ṭalabi al-ʿulā, wa sāfir fa-fī al-asfāri khamsu fawāʾidi; tafarruju hammin wa iktisābu maʿīshatin, wa ʿilmun wa ādābun wa ṣuḥbatu mājidi.

Imam al-Shāfiʿī says: leave your homeland in search of exaltation, and travel, because there are five benefits in travelling — to relieve your distress, to seek a livelihood, to seek knowledge, to seek manners and new ways of behaving, and finally, he said, to accompany someone who is righteous. These are benefits you can gain through travelling. So Allah (swt) made Mūsā travel in the land, so that he could learn.
