Stronger Together

Now notice that the rules of brotherhood in Islam are in the ayat that follow. Why does he want help from his brother Hārūn?

To increase my strength through him. You and your brother are stronger together. That is one purpose of brotherhood in Islam: you become stronger when you have a brother. When you are alone, you are not as strong as when you have a brother. That is why the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) always told us to be with the jamāʿah. Do not think that you can survive alone in the wilderness outside. Outside, it is a jungle. It is a jungle. And you need to be with the Muslims, because you are like sheep. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: innamā yaʾkulu al-dhiʾbu min al-ghanami al-qāṣiyah — the wolf eats the stray sheep. The wolf will not attack the flock; the wolf attacks the sheep that is alone.

Ushdud bihī azrī — that is number one. And then: and let him share my task, so that he will help me in my task.

Brotherhood in Islam is not for worldly benefit. That we may glorify You much and remember You much; verily, You are ever seeing us. We can worship You together — that is why I want to have a brother: so that we can both worship Allah (swt) and make tasbīḥ and dhikr for Allah.

Allah (swt) said: you are granted your request, O Mūsā. Allah granted him his request.
