Towers in the Heaven

As for the rest of the sūrah, there is much in it upon the qudrah and the oneness of Allah (swt), and upon the evidences. Allah (swt) states openly, loudly and explicitly, verse upon verse throughout the Qur'an, that Allah is the khāliq. He is the Creator of the whole of existence. He points out: can you create this? Can this be created by anyone else? Look at it. Look at the might of it. Look at the mountains, and how the mountains work as pegs to stabilise the continents. SubḥānAllāh — which science discovers later, the truth behind these things. We do not wait upon science. It is what it is. But it is agreeable when a thing is confirmed. All of this bears witness to the greatness and the might of Allah (swt), to His wisdom and to everything of Him.

Allah speaks of the heavens. That discussion will be seen on reading through this sūrah: the earth, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the fields and the plains, the oceans, the lakes. Allah (swt) speaks of what one might call the trees. Allah speaks of the birds, so that ornithology, the study of birds, is represented in the Qur'an as well. Take a few of the verses, which may be found for oneself, in shāʾ Allāh. Verse 16, for instance:

Wa laqad jaʿalnā fī al-samāʾi burūjan wa zayyannāhā li-l-nāẓirīn. We have set these towers in the heaven. Burūj, of which the singular is burj, is a tower; and they do look like towers, like something peaked and high up there, in their elevation and height. These are the stars. And We made them an adornment; We beautified them for those who look.

And stargazing is a remarkable thing. But having lost it through our light pollution, we must sometimes take expensive journeys to Wādī Rum in Jordan to go and gaze at the skies. Or in Perth, in Australia, mā shāʾ Allāh, the stars may still be seen there; it is quite remarkable. And especially with Google Sky, as it seems to be called. And a great many of those stars out there have been mapped by Muslims, by Muslim astronomers, which is why they still bear Muslim names. The official name in many of them is a Muslim name. Allah (swt) then speaks of the jinn, and of how they used to steal some of the information from there; but that is not entered upon here.
