Sources of Living, and the Keys of the Treasuries

Wa jaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyish: in this earth We have placed for you venues, sources of living. That is why no one, after reading this verse, may say that he has nothing. If a man makes the effort he can obtain something. A country was visited lately, and on asking how people fared there, the answer was that anyone in that country who makes an effort can do well; and that if you see a man who is not doing well, it means he is unwilling to work hard. They merely want to get by, which is to say they do not want to work hard, and would rather take handouts or the like. So Allah has placed it there: wa jaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha wa man lastum lahu bi-rāziqīn. Make the effort.

Allāhu akbar. These are verses 21 and 22. Wa in min shayʾin illā ʿindanā khazāʾinuh: there is nothing but that Allah has the keys of its treasure, or its treasuries. Allah has the abundant store of it, as much as He wishes to give. Wa mā nunazziluhu illā bi-qadarin maʿlūm: but when We give it to people, We give it in measure — according to how We would have things done, and according to the effort people make.
