Gardens and Springs
But as has always been said, wherever there is dissuasion there will be persuasion. Wherever there is tarhīb — and all of this was tarhīb — there now comes targhīb. So Allah (swt) begins a discussion of Paradise.
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ
“Surely, the God-fearing will be in gardens and streams: “Enter here in peace, free of fear.”” (15:45–46)
Inna al-muttaqīna fī jannātin wa ʿuyūn. Udkhulūhā bi-salāmin āminīn. For the righteous will be the gardens and the springs. Enter them in complete safety and peace.
And subḥānAllāh, another matter concerning Paradise. Many wonder — husbands and wives especially, who do not care for one another — how am I to remain with my spouse in Paradise? Or whoever it may be.
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ
“We shall have removed whatever grudge they had in their hearts, (thus making them) brothers, sitting on couches, face to face. No weariness shall touch them nor will they be expelled from there.” (15:47–48)
Allah says wa nazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghill: We shall remove whatever hatred, whatever jealousy, whatever rancour is in the heart; We shall remove it. Ikhwānan: they will be brothers; they will have that love between them. And ʿalā sururin mutaqābilīn: sitting face to face upon those platforms there, upon those thrones. Lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣab: it is no place of difficulty or hardship. There is no effort in Paradise. Whatever you wish, you have.
