Eyes Closed by Obstinacy

The difficulty, however — the lament in all of this, the sorrow in all of this — is those who can see this and do not. Many of the evidences given here are drawn from things one sees every day and cannot deny. No one knows what lies behind these things, no one knows the reason of them, and Allah (swt) supplies all of it. But those whose eyes are closed by obstinacy, by arrogance, by stubbornness will not listen to it. They go on denying the oneness of Allah (swt). And then, of course, they deny the Qur'an to be the words of Allah.

So Allah (swt) — at verse 13 — gives another challenge. There are three places in the Qur'an where a challenge of this kind is given. And this one says: bring ten sūrahs like it. Ten chapters; even the shortest ten; bring ten chapters like it. It has already been read earlier where it said: bring one chapter like it. And elsewhere: bring a Qur'an like it. So Allah (swt) speaks of it in different places. But of course they were never able to bring anything like it. They were never able to bring anything like it.
