To Strengthen Your Heart

And Allah finally gives the reason for telling us these stories, in verse 120:

Wa kullan naquṣṣu ʿalayka min anbāʾi al-rusuli mā nuthabbitu bihi fuʾādak. Why do We tell you these stories? One reason, plainly, is that people may reflect upon them. We tell you these stories of the prophets in order to strengthen your heart — nuthabbitu bihi fuʾādak, We strengthen your heart with them.

For when a man knows a thing, he may say: that is all very well, it happened to others. But it makes a great difference to him. When some attack comes, or someone does something mad, and all eyes turn upon the Muslims, a man feels: what now? And then he reads some of this, and thinks: so long as I keep trying my utmost for the sake of Allah, I shall be successful with Allah in the Hereafter. Wa jāʾaka fī hādhihi al-ḥaqqu wa mawʿiẓatun wa dhikrā li-l-muʾminīn: and in this has come to you the truth, and counsel, and a reminder for the believers.

And then finally Allah (swt) ends this chapter with verse 123:

Wa li-llāhi ghaybu al-samāwāti wa-l-arḍ: to Allah belongs all that is unseen of the heavens and the earth, and to Him every matter returns. Fa-ʿbudhu: worship Him. Wa tawakkal ʿalayh: and rely upon Him. Simply rely upon Him. Simply rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do. And with that we end this sūrah.
