Nothing Can Save You This Day

The waves picked up this ark, and Nūḥ is seeing his son in front of his eyes. He's telling his son: come and join us. Wa nādā Nūḥun-ibnahu wa kāna fī maʿzilin yā bunayya-rkab maʿanā wa lā takun maʿa al-kāfirīn: O my son, embark with us, and don't be with the unbelievers. His son, thinking in the terms of this material world, said: qāla saʾāwī ilā jabalin yaʿṣimunī min al-māʾ — I will seek refuge on a mountain that will save me from this water.

He thought that a mountain would save him. I mean, rain cannot cover mountains; we never saw that in our life. Thinking in terms of the material world, he thought that this mountain would save him. His father told him: qāla lā ʿāṣima al-yawma min amri Allāhi illā man raḥim — there's nothing that can save you on this day except the mercy of Allah. He refused. Allah (swt) says: wa ḥāla baynahumā al-mawju fa-kāna min al-mughraqīn — waves separated between them, and he drowned.

Imagine standing, and you see your son in front of your eyes, and the waves are separating between you and him, slowly. And in front of your eyes, you know that that's the end of your son. It's the end of it. What a difficult situation. Subḥān Allāh al-ʿAẓīm.
