5. Creation in Pairs and the Call to Hasten to Allah

After discussing the stories of various prophets and the punishment that befell their nations, Allah (swt) directs our attention to the signs in creation that testify to His perfect design and wisdom. In verses 47-55 of Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Allah (swt) presents profound reflections on the nature of creation and an urgent call to turn to Him.

A particularly significant verse in this passage is verse 49, where Allah (swt) states:

This remarkable verse establishes a universal principle that everything in creation exists in pairs. While the immediate understanding might suggest male and female in living beings, this principle extends far beyond that limited interpretation. The dual nature of creation encompasses numerous dimensions—physical opposites like day and night, light and darkness, heat and cold; conceptual pairs like good and evil, belief and disbelief; and even subatomic particles that have been discovered in recent times. All created things exist with complementary or opposing counterparts, revealing the perfect balance and harmony Allah (swt) has designed in the universe.

This pairing system is presented as a means for reflection (تَذَكَّرُون). The signs are not merely for scientific curiosity but are meant to lead humanity to recognize the wisdom and power of the Creator. The perfection of these pairs, their interdependence, and the balance they maintain point to the deliberate design behind creation.

Following this profound reflection, Allah (swt) offers a beautiful invitation in verse 50:

The command "فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ" (hasten to Allah) is particularly striking in its warmth and urgency. It is not merely a command but an invitation to seek refuge and salvation. The verb used (فِرُّوا) literally means to flee or run quickly, suggesting urgency and intensity. This conveys a sense of both the imminent dangers of remaining distant from Allah and the welcoming embrace awaiting those who turn to Him.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is instructed to declare himself as a "clear warner" (نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ), emphasizing the clarity and unambiguity of his message. This warning is not meant to frighten but to awaken humanity to the reality of their existence and the consequences of their choices.

In the verses that follow, Allah (swt) addresses the accusations made against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by the disbelievers who labeled him either as a magician or a madman. These accusations have been the typical response of those who reject divine guidance throughout history. Every messenger faced similar charges, showing the consistent pattern of rejection despite the clarity of evidence.

A particularly important verse in this passage is verse 55, which offers profound guidance for those engaged in calling others to the path of Allah:

This verse establishes a fundamental principle for da'wah (invitation to Islam): reminders benefit the believers. Thus, one should never be discouraged when giving repeated reminders, even if they are not immediately accepted. The first, second, or third reminder may not take effect, but perhaps the fourth will. The key is to offer these reminders in a wise and beautiful manner. This verse provides comfort to those who feel their advice falls on deaf ears, assuring them that continuous reminders do benefit those whose hearts are open to faith.

These verses eloquently transition from the cosmic signs of Allah's creation to the practical response required of humanity: to hasten to Allah (swt) and remember His guidance continuously, while also reminding others with patience and wisdom.
