4. Creation in Pairs and the Call to Hasten to Allah

Having established the pattern of divine judgment throughout human history, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala now directs attention to the signs in creation that testify to His wisdom and power. One of the most profound verses in this section speaks about the fundamental nature of creation:

This verse reveals a universal principle that extends far beyond human beings and animals. Modern science has gradually come to recognize the paired nature of much of existence – from the positive and negative charges in atoms to the matter and antimatter in physics. The Quran, however, declared this principle fourteen centuries ago, inviting reflection on this remarkable aspect of creation.

The pairing in creation serves as evidence of Allah's perfect wisdom and design. Nothing in existence is random or arbitrary; rather, everything functions according to precise laws and ordered relationships. This universal pairing points to the unity of the Creator, as such harmony and consistency throughout diverse creation can only come from a single, all-knowing source.

Following this profound statement about creation, Allah issues a direct command to humanity:

The command to "flee toward Allah" is one of the most beautiful and profound invitations in the Quran. It carries a sense of urgency combined with hope and promise. The word used here – "فَفِرُّوا" (fa-firrū) – suggests hastening or running quickly, as one might flee from danger toward safety. This imagery is deeply meaningful, portraying Allah as the ultimate refuge and sanctuary for humanity.

This verse transitions the discourse from warning to invitation. After recounting the fates of previous nations who rejected divine guidance, Allah now extends His hand in mercy, calling people to rush toward Him rather than away from Him. The contrast is striking – while previous verses described those who fled from divine truth, here is the call to flee toward divine protection.

The second part of the verse, "Indeed, I am a clear warner to you from Him," establishes the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the messenger delivering this divine invitation. His role is to warn clearly and unambiguously, making the consequences of both acceptance and rejection perfectly clear to humanity.

This section then addresses the persistent accusations against the Prophet, as disbelievers labeled him either a madman or a magician:

Allah consoles the Prophet by revealing that such accusations were the common response of disbelievers throughout history. Every prophet faced similar charges – a pattern of rejection that persisted across generations. This historical continuity serves to strengthen the Prophet's resolve by placing his experience within the broader context of prophetic mission throughout human history.
