Mankind Needs the Messengers

But up to this point, we are done with the history of the anbiyāʾ — we're done with the anbiyāʾ of Allah (swt). Now, a few points that we will close with in regard to the anbiyāʾ of Allah (swt).

First of all: humanity and mankind need the anbiyāʾ of Allah. Mankind can't live and survive without the rusul — without the anbiyāʾ, without the messengers. And I want to read to you some of the words of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) in this regard. He says: fa-innahu lā sabīla ilā al-saʿādati wa-l-falāḥi lā fī al-dunyā wa lā fī al-ākhirati illā ʿalā aydī al-rusul. There is no way to success and happiness in this world, or in the ākhirah, except through the messengers; and there is no way to know the difference between good and evil except through the messengers; and there is no way to receive the pleasure of Allah (swt) except through the messengers. And then he says: they are the standard, in their words and their actions. They are the standard; they are the criterion.

And without the anbiyāʾ of Allah (swt), our spirits and our bodies would be dead. When we say this, we don't only mean that it is important for us to learn about the anbiyāʾ of Allah (swt). What is meant is that the anbiyāʾ of Allah (swt) should be our guides in everything that we do, in every aspect of our life. And that would lead to number two.
