Two Commands, Two Prohibitions, Two Promises

In this verse Allah (swt) is telling her: do not fear and do not grieve — We shall bring him back to you, and We shall make him one of the messengers. And by the way, this ayah contains two dos, two don'ts, and two pieces of good news. This shows you the balāghah, the beauty of the Qur'an: how in one verse you can have all of these different aspects of language.

There are two orders: breastfeed him, and if you fear for him, throw him into the river. Breastfeed, and put him in the river. Then there are two don'ts: wa lā takhāfī wa lā taḥzanī — do not have any fear, and do not have any sorrow. And then there are two promises: innā rāddūhu ilayki — We will return him to you — and wa jāʿilūhu min al-mursalīn — and We will make him one of the messengers. Two promises to the mother of Mūsā: We are going to bring him back to you, do not worry; and he is going to be one of the messengers.

This was a very strong test from Allah (swt) for this righteous mother: if you care for your child, throw him in the river. So she breastfed Mūsā, put him in a wooden casket, a wooden box, and put him in the Nile, and let her child go before her eyes — simply to fulfil this inspiration and this promise of Allah (swt), in which Allah was telling her: We are going to return him to you, and We are going to make him one of the messengers.
