Descendants Who Lost the Prayer
Verse 59 follows:
۞ فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا
“Then came after them the successors who neglected Salāh and followed (their selfish) desires. So they will soon face (the outcome of their) deviation, except those who repent and believe and do good deeds, and therefore they will enter the Paradise and will not be wronged at all.” (19:59–60)
After them came descendants who neglected the prayer and followed their appetites, and a hard reckoning awaits them — save that, as always, Allah leaves a way out: save the one who repents, believes rightly and acts righteously. Such as these will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged.
There follows a full description of Paradise, which cannot be dwelt upon here for want of time, though these descriptions are among the finest passages of the Qur'an.
The virtues accorded to Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him) were granted on account of the sacrifices he made — sacrifices of an unnatural and undue order, offered in altogether extraordinary ways, as when he was commanded to sacrifice his son.
