Prophets From His Line
When he had departed, and after the sacrifice:
فَلَمَّا ٱعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا
“So, when he went away from them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We blessed him with IsHāq (Isaac) and Ya‘qūb (Jacob) and We made each one of them a prophet,” (19:49)
Allah granted him Isḥāq and Yaʿqūb, made each of them a prophet, and bestowed upon them of His mercy.
One point deserves notice here. After Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him), so far as is known, virtually every prophet came from his descendants: the Banū Isrāʾīl, then Ismāʿīl (peace be upon him), then Muhammad (peace be upon him) — all from his children, since no prophet outside the Israelite line is known apart from Ismāʿīl (peace be upon him), Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the like.
Second, all the revealed books of which we know — the four major scriptures — came through prophets and messengers among his descendants. He had, besides, his own scriptures, the Ṣuḥuf Ibrāhīm; and a remnant of his faith survived in Makkah Mukarramah.
