12. Stories of Other Prophets (Musa, Ilyas, Yunus)

Following the narrative of Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them), Allah (swt) continues in Surah As-Saffat with brief but significant accounts of other noble prophets, each conveying unique lessons about faith and divine mercy.

The story of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and his brother Harun (peace be upon him) is mentioned briefly:

Allah (swt) reminds us how He bestowed His favor upon Musa and Harun, delivering them and their people from the oppression of Pharaoh. Their guidance to the straight path and their legacy among later generations is affirmed, highlighting their honored status:

The narrative then turns to Prophet Ilyas (peace be upon him), who was sent to a community in Sham (Greater Syria). His people had abandoned the worship of Allah (swt) for an idol called Ba'l. The name Ba'l is linked to the place Baalbek (in present-day Lebanon), which derives its name from this idol.

Ilyas (peace be upon him) admonished his people for their deviation:

His call was straightforward: how could they abandon the worship of Allah, the Best of Creators, for a mere idol? Yet his people rejected him, and Allah (swt) mentions their consequent fate. Meanwhile, Allah (swt) bestows peace upon Ilyas:

This verse has two recitation variants: some recite it as "Ilyas" and others as "Il Yaseen" (the family of Yaseen). Both are acceptable and recognized recitations.
