6. The Prophet as the Seal and His Special Characteristics

In Surah Al-Ahzab, Allah Almighty emphatically declares the finality of prophethood through Muhammad (peace be upon him), designating him as the last and seal of all prophets. This fundamental Islamic belief is explicitly stated in verse 40:

The term Khatam an-Nabiyyin (seal of the prophets) definitively establishes that no prophet will come after Muhammad (peace be upon him). This verse serves as a clear refutation of all false claims to prophethood after him, including those made by figures such as Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, Baha'ullah of the Baha'i faith, or Elijah Muhammad. According to Islamic understanding, Allah sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final prophet, completing and perfecting the divine message for all humanity until the Day of Judgment.

Following this declaration of his finality, Allah proceeds to enumerate special characteristics and functions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), highlighting his unique role and mission. In verses 45 and 46, Allah addresses him:

Here, Allah identifies five distinctive roles of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

1. Shahid (Witness) - The Prophet will bear witness about all nations on the Day of Judgment, testifying that Allah's message was conveyed to humanity.

2. Mubashshir (Bearer of Good News) - He brings glad tidings to the righteous believers, promising them divine rewards for their faith and good deeds. This serves as encouragement and motivation for believers to persevere in their spiritual journey.

3. Nadhir (Warner) - He warns those who disbelieve or disobey about the consequences of
