Why Do You Harm Me?
Mūsā (peace be upon him) was with the children of Israel in the wilderness. They were lost in the desert. And Mūsā (peace be upon him) had to spend his life and his efforts dealing with his people. Mūsā wanted good for them; nevertheless, they were causing him difficulties, and they were being stubborn and difficult to deal with. So Mūsā (peace be upon him) told his people:
وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَـٰقَوْمِ لِمَ تُؤْذُونَنِى وَقَد تَّعْلَمُونَ أَنِّى رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَلَمَّا زَاغُوٓا۟ أَزَاغَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ
“And (remember) when Mūsā said to his people, “O my people, why do you hurt me, while you know that I am a messenger of Allah sent towards you.” So, when they adopted deviation, Allah let their hearts become deviate. And Allah does not guide the sinful people.” (61:5)
O my people, why do you harm me, when you know that I am a messenger sent by Allah to you? Why do you harm me? But Mūsā had to endure all of this difficulty with his people.
And then his brother Hārūn (peace be upon him) — the prophet of Allah (swt), the right hand of Mūsā, his advisor, his wazīr, his supporter and his helper throughout this period — his brother Hārūn (peace be upon him) passed away. Now Mūsā (peace be upon him) was alone to deal with his nation, with this huge nation of Banū Isrāʾīl. Mūsā was alone. He had lost his close associate, his brother and advisor, Hārūn (peace be upon him).
