He Will Create What You Do Not Know

Then Allah says wa-l-khayla wa-l-bighāla wa-l-ḥamīra li-tarkabūhā wa-zīnah. You have these: the horse, and the mule, which is a cross between a horse and a donkey and is very strong, and the donkey itself. These are what you mount, to take you to places and to carry things for you. And you take them also as a zīnah: they are your assets. I have so many horses, I have so many camels. There was a friend in Madīnah Munawwarah who said that his father keeps camels, and has a hundred camels. That was the whole of it: a hundred camels.

Wa yakhluqu mā lā taʿlamūn: and Allah will create what you do not know. In the same discussion of the means of travel, Allah mentioned a few — those which were the means of travel of that day, some of them. And then Allah says that He will create what you do not know. How could cars and segways have been mentioned at that time? No one had made any. But Allah said it: wa yakhluqu mā lā taʿlamūn. And He will create what you do not know.

And subḥānAllāh, this may be called one of the greatest miracles of the last century, for much of this has only come up in the last century, or a century and a half: steamboats, bicycles, trains, planes, trams, submarines, rockets, cars, buses, motorbikes, hovercrafts, snowmobiles, dune buggies, segways, flying taxis soon, flying boards, hoverboards — and subḥānAllāh, we do not even know what else. And Allah says wa yakhluqu mā lā taʿlamūn: Allah will create what you do not know. SubḥānAllāh. This sūrah is full of the signs of Allah and of His blessings.
