The Duʿāʾ Everybody Should Make
And then, finally, there is the duʿāʾ that everyone ought to make — the duʿāʾ of Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him). For anyone troubled by children who do not pray, and wishing that they would:
رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ
“My Lord, make me steadfast in Salāh, and my offspring as well. And, Our Lord, grant my prayer.” (14:40)
Our Lord, make me one who establishes the prayer, and from my progeny — not one's children only, but one's descendants to the Day of Judgement. If a man prays today, it may well be because some forefather of his prayed for him. We ought certainly to pray for our descendants and for ourselves. Our Lord, and accept our supplication.
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ
“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and all believers on the day when reckoning shall take place.”” (14:41)
Our Lord, forgive me, and my parents, and the believers, on the Day the reckoning is established.
