The Duʿās of Ibrāhīm

We come now to the passage already spoken of, from verse 35 onwards, concerning Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him), who makes several duʿāʾs in it.

He prays first for Makkah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) afterwards made a like prayer for Madīnah Munawwarah, asking that it be granted what Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him) had asked for Makkah.

He then asks that he and his children be kept from the worship of idols; adding that whoever follows him is of him, and whoever disobeys him he leaves to Allah, who is Most Forgiving and Merciful.

He says next that he has settled his family in this place — the verse translated above — and prays that they be provided with fruits of every kind. In a region without water he makes this supplication; and what may be found there today is remarkable.
