A Message for the People of Intellect
Finally, the closing verse of the sūrah. Allah (swt) says, at verse 52:
هَـٰذَا بَلَـٰغٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
“This is a message for mankind, so that they (take lesson and) be warned, and so that they may know that He is One God, and so that the people of understanding may observe the advice.” (14:52)
This is a proclamation to mankind: that they may be warned by it, and may know that He is one God, that they have but one deity; and it is a summons to the people of intellect, that they may reflect upon it and understand.
To understand the Qur'an one must think. It takes a thinking person to appreciate the Qur'an. A man may be a believer, yet if he does not think, he will not benefit from the Book as he might. The Qur'an requires engagement: it asks questions continually, it engages, it challenges — and it does so because it means to draw us in. It is discursive; it is a discourse.
