The People of Yemen

And then there was a delegation of the Ashʿariyyūn. The Ashʿariyyūn are from an area in western Yemen, in Tihāmah — an area called Zabīd — and they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). In al-Bukhārī (4388) it says: ʿan Abī Hurayrata ʿan al-nabiyy qāla: atākum ahlu al-Yaman, hum araqqu afʾidatan wa alyanu qulūbā; al-īmānu yamānin wa al-ḥikmatu yamāniyah. When this delegation came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, according to the narration of al-Bukhārī: the people of Yemen have come to you; they are soft-hearted; īmān is Yemeni, and wisdom is Yemeni. And this is the praise the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gave the people of Yemen: that īmān and ḥikmah are Yemeni. And this was said when Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī and his people came to meet the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

And then there was a delegation from the kings of Ḥimyar, which is also in Yemen. ʿAn Anasi bni Mālik — and this is narrated by Abū Dāwūd (4034) — anna malika Dhī Yazan ahdā ilā Rasūli Allāhi ḥullatan akhadhahā bi-thalāthatin wa thalāthīna baʿīrah: the king of Dhū Yazan gave the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) a gift, a garment that had cost him thirty-three camels — very expensive — and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) accepted this gift from him.
