The Truth Has Come

And then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), riding on his camel, was going around the Kaʿbah — in one narration holding a stick, and in another narration holding his bow — and he was pointing at these idols, these glorified idols, these idols sacred to the people of Quraysh. And they were all watching. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was going around, poking these idols in their eyes. And in one narration he was just pointing towards the idols, and they were falling one after the other: if he pointed towards the face of an idol, it would fall on its back; and if the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) pointed towards the back of the idol, it would fall on its face. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did that with the three hundred and sixty idols surrounding the Kaʿbah. And all of the kuffār of Quraysh were watching this monumental moment, when all of their gods, which had been there for centuries and centuries — they were watching their idols falling down, breaking into pieces. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was saying — he was reciting this ayah (al-Bukhārī 4287):

The truth has come, and error has gone. Error is bound to disappear — error, or evil, is bound to disappear.
