"Did ʿAqīl Leave Us Any Property?"

In al-Bukhārī it says that Usāmah ibn Zayd asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): ayna tanzilu ghadan? — where are you going to spend the night? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: wa hal taraka lanā ʿAqīlun min ribāʿ? — did ʿAqīl leave us any property? ʿAqīl had taken over all of the inheritance, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had nothing left. And then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: lā yarithu al-muʾminu al-kāfira wa lā al-kāfiru al-muʾmin — the believer does not inherit from the disbeliever, and the disbeliever does not inherit from the believer (al-Bukhārī 1588). And this is the ḥukm, the ruling, regarding inheritance: there is no inheritance between two different religions.

And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said — and this is in al-Bukhārī (1590) — manziluna ghadan in shāʾa Allāhu bi-khayfi Banī Kinānata ḥaythu taqāsamū ʿalā al-kufr: tomorrow we are going to stay — we are going to spend the night, in shāʾ Allāh, by the will of Allah — at Khayf Banī Kinānah, the place where they swore an oath upon disbelief. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wanted to replace the kufr that had happened in that place by spending the night there, and bringing the spirit of īmān to that place: if evil had happened in that place, he would bring good to it. These are some of the events that happened during Fatḥ Makkah.
