The Innocent Imprisoned
ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُۥ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
“Later on, even after having seen the clear signs (of his innocence), they deemed it proper to imprison him for some time.” (12:35)
Then it appeared to them, after they had seen the proofs of his innocence, to imprison him for a time. Now the news had spread; it was a scandal. How could they solve the problem? By taking the innocent one to prison. Instead of stopping the wife of al-ʿAzīz, they took the prophet of Allah, Yūsuf, and put him in prison. He was wronged and put in prison, even though he was innocent.
