A Mercy to the Worlds

And finally Allah (swt) brings a very prominent verse here, where He says to the Prophet (peace be upon him) — this may be looked at, verse 107, just before the ending — wa mā arsalnāka illā raḥmatan li-l-ʿālamīn: I have sent you only as a mercy to all the worlds.

And inna fī hādhā la-balāghan li-qawmin ʿābidīn: this is all conveyed to the people who are worshippers.

Now ʿālamīn may be rendered in whatever way one wishes. One may speak of the world as the various kingdoms of animals and birds and such things. One may speak of this world and the next. So ʿālamīn is very general, and one may set under it anything that may be classed as an ʿālam. But remember one thing: ʿālamīn, the plural of ʿālam, means literally a sign. Anything that is a sign that Allah exists is an ʿālam. Which is everything. So everything besides Allah is an ʿālam, literally speaking. Everything besides Allah is an ʿālam, because it shows that Allah exists and that He is the Creator of it.

Then Allah (swt) speaks of the Qur'an as well. And the last point made here is qāla rabbi uḥkum bi-l-ḥaqq, qāla rabbi uḥkum bi-l-ḥaqq.

What happened here is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) made a duʿāʾ to Allah (swt): O Allah, O my Lord, give the true judgement now. Judge with justice. Wa rabbunā al-Raḥmānu al-mustaʿānu ʿalā mā taṣifūn: and our Lord is the Most Merciful — al-Raḥmānu al-mustaʿānu ʿalā mā taṣifūn — He is the One whose help is to be sought against what you describe. So this is a duʿāʾ of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
