Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj
Then the sūrah closes with a discussion which, since in the last sūrah — Sūrat al-Kahf — we had the matter of Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj, takes up Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj here as well.
وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ
“It is banned for (the people of) a town that We destroyed that they come back” (21:95)
Allah (swt) says wa ḥarāmun ʿalā qaryatin ahlaknāhā annahum lā yarjiʿūn.
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتْ يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٍ يَنسِلُونَ
“until when the Ya’jūj and Ma’jūj (Gog and Magog) are released, while they run down from every height,” (21:96)
Ḥattā idhā futiḥat Yaʾjūju wa Maʾjūju wa hum min kulli ḥadabin yansilūn: they will come down from every height. One will simply see them pouring down. And wa-qtaraba al-waʿdu al-ḥaqq. So that matter is alluded to there.
