Take Your Adornment for Prayer

Then Allah says: O children of Adam, take your adornment — and especially when you go for ṣalāh you should dress well, religiously speaking, when going for ṣalāh — this being akin to the command of the Qur'an that at every masjid, at every place of prostration, one should pray in good clothing. Hence many regard praying in a T-shirt as unfitting. Indeed, even in the West it was once unfitting to appear in public in a T-shirt, whereas now it is the norm. A hundred years ago a man would have been looked down upon for it; everyone dressed well. As has been said, what was decent for hundreds of years, for a thousand years, has of a sudden changed entirely. And again, we do not yet know its effects.

Then follows the famous maxim of health: kulū wa-shrabū wa-lā tusrifū — eat and drink, and do not waste, do not be extravagant; Allah does not love the extravagant.

The last "O children of Adam" is not about clothing; it is rather that if a messenger comes to you to tell you: fa-mani ttaqā wa-aṣlaḥa fa-lā khawfun ʿalayhim wa-lā hum yaḥzanūn — glad tidings to those who follow and have taqwā.
