The Throne of the Most Merciful Shook

This is such a great Ṣaḥābī. And the greatest, the greatest virtue of all, a virtue that we didn't hear was attributed to any Ṣaḥābī other than him, was the virtue that was mentioned by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, Ihtazza ʿarshu al-Raḥmān li-mawti Saʿd ibn Muʿādh: "The Throne of Allah shook because of the death of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh" (Muslim 2466; al-Bukhārī 3803). The Throne of Allah, the Creator of the universe, moved. It was shaking. Why? Because of the death of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh (may Allah be pleased with him). This is how great Saʿd ibn Muʿādh was.

Now, some of the scholars say that the reason why the Throne of Allah shook was because of the commotion that was caused among the angels who are carrying the Throne of Allah: when they knew that Saʿd died, a commotion, sort of, occurred, and that caused the Throne of Allah to shake. May Allah be pleased with him, Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, may Allah be pleased with him.

And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never forgot about Saʿd. Even after he died, he would still remember him. One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) received gifts. He received some pieces of cloth that the Ṣaḥābah never, never saw the likes of those pieces of cloth. Probably they were cloth of silver, garments of silver^*****. So the Ṣaḥābah were holding this cloth; every one of them wanted to touch it, and they were tested: they wanted to touch this beautiful fabric. They were so impressed with it. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw this crowd taking a look at this piece of cloth, so he said, A-taʿjabūna min līni hādhihi? "Are you amazed at how soft this cloth is?" The handkerchiefs of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh in Jannah are softer and better than this cloth (al-Bukhārī 3802; Muslim 2468). The handkerchief, not the garment: the tissues, the handkerchiefs of Saʿd in Jannah are better than this.
