Some Virtues of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh

Some virtues of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh (may Allah be pleased with him), the special man, the Ṣaḥābī. Saʿd ibn Muʿādh was the head of al-Aws. After the ruling was delivered on the Yahūd of Banū Qurayẓah, the injury of Saʿd, which was almost entirely healed, subḥān Allāh, again opened, and it caused the death of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh. So the duʿāʾ of Saʿd was fulfilled. First of all, there was no more fighting with Quraysh. Number two, he died as a shahīd because of his wound. Number three, he saw a happy ending to the affair of Banū Qurayẓah.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, Qūmū ilā sayyidikum, "Stand up for your master." So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called him master, and he's the only man whom we know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told the Ṣaḥābah to stand up for. That's one of his virtues.

Next, when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) heard the news of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh dying, he rushed towards him with the Ṣaḥābah, and he told them to come along with him, and he was walking so fast that the shoes of the Ṣaḥābah were tearing and their garments were falling down. So they told the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about it; they complained about it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "I want to go there." He said, Innī akhāfu an tasbiqanā al-malāʾikah: "I'm afraid that the angels will reach there before us." So the angels were rushing to go towards Saʿd. That's another of his virtues.

Another virtue: when he died, the mother of Saʿd was weeping. She was mourning her son. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Every mourner is exaggerating, except for the mother of Saʿd." You have a reason to cry; you have a reason to mourn the death of Saʿd, because he was such a Muslim. Kullu nāʾiḥatin takdhibu illā Umm Saʿd.

When they carried the janāzah of Saʿd, it was so light. So they went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and they said it was so light, it was as if it was empty; his body wasn't there. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: and why shouldn't … The janāzah of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh: angels who never came down to the dunyā came down specially to participate in the funeral of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh (may Allah be pleased with him), and they were carrying his body alongside the Ṣaḥābah (may Allah be pleased with them).
