Behind ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to make wuḍūʾ, and he was very late for the ṣalāh, so the Muslims made the iqāmah, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf led the ṣalāh. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) caught up with them while they were still in the prayer, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf wanted to step back, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had him carry on, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed behind ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf (Muslim 274). That makes ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf the only Ṣaḥābī behind whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed^*, and this is a great virtue for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf.
