The Testimony Within the Prayer

The tenth form of worship, for which additional ḥasanāt are received within ṣalāh, is that the Shahādah is said in it: ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa-rasūluh. This too is a further addition to the prayer — it is part of ṣalāh, but because the Shahādah is said, extra reward is given for it. How so, and what is the proof? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that there is not a single servant who makes wuḍūʾ, and makes sure that the wuḍūʾ is properly done, and after that wuḍūʾ raises his hands towards the heavens, looks towards the heavens and says, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger" — even once — except that Allah (swt) opens for him all the doors of Jannah, so that he may enter by whichever of them he wishes. The doors of Jannah, the gates of Jannah, are opened to him, and he shall enter.

When one prays with sincerity, with ikhlāṣ in one's ṣalāh, with full khushūʿ and no absent-mindedness, then in every ṣalāh there is recited: at-taḥiyyātu lillāhi waṣ-ṣalawātu waṭ-ṭayyibāt, as-salāmu ʿalayka ayyuhā n-nabiyyu wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh, as-salāmu ʿalaynā wa-ʿalā ʿibādillāhi ṣ-ṣāliḥīn — I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Depending on the school of thought one follows the words may change a little, but the meaning is exactly the same: some words are turned around or placed differently, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) narrated these things in ṣaḥīḥ chains. That is known one hundred per cent.
