A Barrister on the Day of Judgement

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) states that the Qur'an is to be read continually, because it will come on the Day of Judgement as an intercessor for those who read it, pleading their case before Allah. Much as the finest barrister, retained at great expense, might argue a case so persuasively in this world's courts that a judge and everyone present is moved by the argument, so too, in the court of Allah, there could be no better advocate than the Book of Allah itself, coming to plead on behalf of the one who read it, understood its message, obeyed what it commanded, avoided what it forbade, upheld the laws contained within it, listened to the stories of the past it tells and drew ʿibrah, discerning lessons, from them, and took it as a manual for life, as guidance, hidāyah, and as a light, nūr, upon the path: this one has truly honoured Me, so forgive the shortcomings, and grant Paradise.
