O Fire, Be Coolness and Safety for Ibrāhīm

Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him) landed in this fire that burns. Allah (swt) ordered the fire, because the fire is a servant of Allah (swt).

Qulnā yā nāru kūnī bardan wa salāman ʿalā Ibrāhīm: O fire, be cool, and peace, tranquillity, on Ibrāhīm. It is said that Ibrāhīm later would say that the most pleasant moments that I had in my life were those moments when I was sitting in the fire. The best moments that he had in his life, the most peaceful moments, were those moments when Allah (swt) told the burning fire: qulnā yā nāru kūnī bardan wa salāman ʿalā Ibrāhīm — O fire, be you coolness and safety for Ibrāhīm.

Allah (swt) can change everything for you. Allah made the sun stop for Yūshaʿ ibn Nūn. Allah (swt) made the sea split for Mūsā. Allah (swt) made all diseases vanish under the hand of Sayyidunā ʿĪsā. Allah (swt) made the moon split for Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah (swt) made the fire coolness and safety for Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him). Allah (swt) can do whatever He wants for the believer.

We have to have trust in Allah (swt), and tawakkul, that Allah will give you victory if you follow the orders of Allah. You don't need anything else. You don't need anything. All that you need is Allah (swt). All that you need is Allah (swt).

Subḥān Allāh — and what was the duʿāʾ of Ibrāhīm when he was thrown in the fire? Ḥasbiya Allāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl. Allah is sufficient for me. Allah is enough. I do not need the help of anyone. Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. I do not need anyone but Allah (swt).

It says in the hadith narrated by al-Bukhārī: Ibn ʿAbbās said, ḥasbunā Allāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl, qālahā Ibrāhīmu ḥīna ulqiya fī al-nār, wa qālahā Muḥammadun (peace be upon him) ḥīna qālū inna al-nāsa qad jamaʿū lakum fa-khshawhum, fa-zādahum īmānan wa qālū ḥasbunā Allāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl.

Ibn ʿAbbās says: ḥasbunā Allāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl — Allah is sufficient for us, and the best disposer of our affairs. Ibrāhīm said it when he was thrown in the fire; and Muhammad (peace be upon him) said it when he was threatened, and told that the enemies are gathering for you, so fear them. That made them increase in their īmān, and they said: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was threatened that the enemies are mobilising and gathering to fight you, so fear them — the people were telling Muhammad (peace be upon him) to fear the enemy — Allah (swt) says: fa-zādahum īmānā. That made their īmān increase.

Allah (swt) says: wa arādū bihi kaydan fa-jaʿalnāhumu al-akhsarīn — and they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. Wa najjaynāhu wa Lūṭan ilā al-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā li-l-ʿālamīn: Allah (swt) says that We saved him, and Lūṭ, to the land which We blessed — and we'll get to that, in shāʾ Allāh, the hijrah of Ibrāhīm, later.
