16. Prophets Mentioned in the Quran | Verses: Al-An'am 6:83-90
After relating Ibrahim's profound journey to monotheism, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala acknowledges the divine argument He bestowed upon Ibrahim against his people:
وَتِلْكَ حُجَّتُنَا آتَيْنَاهَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَن نَشَاءُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ
“That was Our argument which We gave to Ibrahim against his people. We raise in ranks whom We will. Your Lord is Wise, Knowing.”
The powerful reasoning and spiritual insight granted to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) exemplifies how Allah elevates those who sincerely seek truth. This divine guidance is not merely intellectual enlightenment but spiritual elevation, as Allah raises the ranks of His chosen servants according to His wisdom.
Following this, Allah mentions an extraordinary succession of prophets, forming one of the most comprehensive listings of prophets in the Quran. The passage presents a genealogical and spiritual chain of prophethood:
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِين
“We bestowed upon him IsHāq and Ya‘qūb . Each one of them We guided to the right path. Earlier, We guided NūH and, of his progeny, (We guided) Dawūd and Sulaimān and Ayyūb and Yūsuf (Joseph) and Mūsā and Hārūn.-Thus We reward those who are good in deeds-” (6:84)
