6. Balance Between Hope and Fear in Faith
After describing the fate of those who follow Satan's path, Allah introduces a striking contrast by describing the destination of the righteous:
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
“Indeed, the God-fearing will be in gardens and springs." (Al-Hijr 15:45)”
This immediate transition from discussing punishment to reward demonstrates the Qur'anic balance between warning and encouragement, fear and hope. The believers will enter Paradise in perfect peace:
ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ
“Enter them in peace, secure." (Al-Hijr 15:46)”
A remarkable feature of Paradise will be the purification of hearts:
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
“We shall remove whatever grudge they have in their hearts, (and they will be sitting) as brothers, on couches, face to face." (Al-Hijr 15:47)”
Whatever jealousy, resentment, or ill feelings might have existed between people in worldly life will be completely eliminated. Even those who had disagreements or conflicts will experience perfect brotherhood and harmony. The inhabitants of Paradise will face each other on thrones as equals, experiencing neither fatigue nor expulsion:
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَم
“No weariness shall touch them nor will they be expelled from there.” (15:48)
