Aqida Tahawiyya, Lesson 8: Intercession, the Covenant and the Divine Decree

Section 24 of 24 · Aqeedah · Mufti Abdul Rahman Mangera

A Closing Duʿāʾ

May Allah (swt) reward all of us for spending this time with these matters. May Allah benefit us from these works. May Allah reward all of the scholars connected with all of these books: the writers, the translators, the publishers and the producers, and everybody who made this a success. May Allah (swt) reward all of them, and especially those who take time out and sit down with a subject like this: a very complex subject, a very difficult subject, but a very important one, recognising that importance. May Allah (swt) open up our hearts for His knowledge, and give us a true understanding of this, and may Allah (swt) bless us all.

Allāhumma anta al-salām wa minka al-salām, tabārakta yā dha al-jalāli wa al-ikrām.

***

* Kept as given. In Muʿtazilī doctrine, Allah must punish whoever dies unrepentant of a major sin (kabīrah); minor sins are forgiven for one who avoids the major ones.

** Kept as given. The narration of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb about this verse is recorded by Mālik in al-Muwaṭṭaʾ, by Abū Dāwūd and by al-Tirmidhī; it is not in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.

*** Kept as given. In the hadith of Ibn Masʿūd in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, what remains between the person and Paradise, or the Fire, is a forearm's length (dhirāʿ).

**** Kept as given. In the sentences that follow, qadar is the bringing into being and qaḍāʾ the predestination, so the word described here as preordaining is qaḍāʾ.

***** Kept as given. The couplet ends with mursal, a messenger; a murshid is a guide.

****** Kept as given. In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim the wording is aqrabu mā yakūnu al-ʿabdu min rabbihi wa huwa sājid.
