We Will Fight With You

Compare this with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at the battle of Badr. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ashīrū ʿalayya ayyuhā al-nās — give me your opinion; shall we fight the enemy or not? — Ibn al-Aswad stood up and said: we are not going to say what the children of Israel said, go and fight with your Lord; but we are going to say: go and fight with your Lord, and we are going to fight with you.
