When You Stand to Pray, Do Not Turn Around

Wa āmurukum bi-ṣ-ṣalāh, fa-idhā qumtum ilā ṣ-ṣalāti fa-lā taltafitū. Number two: I command you to pray. And then he said: and when you stand to pray, don't turn your face around — because Allah (swt) is facing you. Fa-inna Allāha ʿazza wa jalla yuqbilu bi-wajhihi ʿalā al-ʿabdi mā lam yaltafit: as long as you are facing Him, Allah will face you; and as soon as you turn your face away, Allah will turn His face away from you.

It's a common mistake: turning the eyes around in ṣalāh. And that is something unacceptable in ṣalāh. One should not stare around and keep track of everyone who's coming in and out, and what's going on around. That distracts you from ṣalāh. And as soon as you do that, Allah (swt) will turn His face away from you. One should stare at the place of sujūd throughout the ṣalāh.
