Bow Down With Those Who Bow

And then the angels convey to her the order of Allah (swt): yā Maryamu uqnutī li-rabbiki wa-sjudī wa-rkaʿī maʿa al-rākiʿīn. Allah (swt) says: O Maryam, submit yourself with obedience to your Lord, and prostrate yourself, and bow down with the ones who bow down. Allah (swt) said uqnutī, from qunūt; and qunūt is having khushūʿ with Allah (swt), and worshipping Allah (swt) continuously. That is qunūt.

And then sujūd; wa-rkaʿī maʿa al-rākiʿīn, and make rukūʿ. What are sujūd and rukūʿ? What do they refer to? They refer to ṣalāh. They refer to ṣalāh because, as we said, rukūʿ and sujūd are the most prominent symbols of ṣalāh. If you see somebody in rukūʿ, you know that that person is praying. If you see somebody in sujūd, you know that that person is praying. So rukūʿ and sujūd are very prominent and unique positions of ṣalāh, and that's why they have been used to refer to ṣalāh in the Qur'an.

Wa-rkaʿī maʿa al-rākiʿīn: make rukūʿ with the ones who are making rukūʿ. What is that referring to? Ṣalāt al-jamāʿah. Allah (swt) is ordering Maryam (peace be upon her) to join in the jamāʿah and pray.
