Why It Is Called al-Ḥajj

It is called Sūrat al-Ḥajj — although the masāʾil of Hajj have already appeared in earlier sūrahs — because its concern is rather the inception of the Hajj, and the emotional response to it: the feelings one ought to have for the Hajj, which Muslims generally do have, and why they have them.

The treatment of the Hajj — not the sūrah itself, but the passage on the Hajj — opens, as will be seen, with Ibrāhīm (peace be upon him), his construction of the Kaʿbah, and then his calling out to the people. That point is reached below, in shāʾ Allāh.

As mentioned, there are some rulings here, but the greater part of the sūrah is still proofs of the tenets of faith.
