Five Marks of the Believers
إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَـٰنًا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
“Certainly, the believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe when (the name of) Allah is mentioned; and when His verses are recited to them, it makes them more developed in faith; and in their Lord they place their trust.” (8:2)
Allah (swt) here, at innamā al-muʾminūna alladhīna idhā dhukira Allāh, verse 2, mentions five characteristics of good believers, which hold for us as well. First, the fear of Allah. Second, the tilāwah of the Qur'an, which is to understand it and to learn from it. And reliance upon al-Raḥmān, reliance upon Allah (swt). The protection of the prayer, the preservation of it, being mindful of it. And being excellent in one's dealings with people.
After that begins the whole account of the Battle of Badr, which may be read and benefited from, in shāʾ Allāh. Allah (swt) speaks there of a great many things, of the various matters that took place.
