Az-Zubayr's Javelin

One of the famous fighters of the mushrikīn was nicknamed Abū al-Kirsh, the one with the potbelly — he was covered in armour, and only his eyes could be seen. So al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, may Allah be pleased with him, attacked him — but again, this is a man covered in steel from head to toe. Al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, with his javelin, was able to strike him right in that small opening in the eye, but the opening was so small that the spear, the javelin, couldn't go through; so al-Zubayr steps on his javelin with his foot and forces it deep into the head of Abū al-Kirsh. So when he pulls out his javelin, the blade was bent so badly, and this shows the strength of al-Zubayr, may Allah be pleased with him — it was amazing that the blade was bent in such a fashion. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked to keep that javelin as a souvenir; and when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed away, Abū Bakr asked for it, and when Abū Bakr passed away, ʿUmar asked for it, and when ʿUmar passed away, al-Zubayr got it back again — it was his. But then ʿUthmān asked al-Zubayr to give it to him, so al-Zubayr hands it over to the caliph ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān; and when ʿUthmān passes away, ʿAlī takes it, and then after ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Zubayr, the son of al-Zubayr, gets it.
