Only the Creator Designates What Is Preferred

Allah created everything; therefore He is the only one who has the right to designate what is right and what is wrong, and what carries preference over others. The days of the week, for example, are seven. Are they all equal? There is no difference between Friday and Saturday and Sunday and the other days from a scientific point of view; they are all the same. However, Allah has told us that Jumuʿah is preferred over the rest of the days of the week. Since Allah (swt) is the one who created these days, He has the right to tell us which one is better. There is no difference between Ramaḍān and the rest of the months of the year in terms of the solar system; the rotation of the moon or the sun does not make Ramaḍān any different from any other month. They are all the same; they are all equal. However, Allah (swt) has designated Ramaḍān … Allah has chosen the first ten days of Dhū al-Ḥijjah to be the best days of the year in terms of the reward for good deeds done within them, just as He has designated the last ten nights of Ramaḍān to be the most rewardable nights of the year; and out of those ten nights He chose the odd nights to be the best, and out of the odd nights He chose Laylat al-Qadr to be the best night of the year. Wa rabbuka yakhluqu mā yashāʾu wa yakhtār — your Lord creates what He wills and chooses what is given a preferable status over the rest. So it is something that only Allah has the right to do. The same thing with war: it is all evil, except what Allah designates as good.
