The Virtues of the Anṣār

Some of the virtues of the Anṣār follow, the ones who sacrificed for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says: only a believer would love them, and only a munāfiq, a hypocrite, would hate them; and whoever loves them, Allah will love him, and whoever hates them, Allah will hate him, or Allah will dislike him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says, and this is in al-Bukhārī: law anna al-Anṣāra salakū wādiyan aw shiʿban la-salaktu wādiya al-Anṣār, wa-law lā al-hijratu la-kuntu min al-Anṣār — if the Anṣār take one path and the rest of the people take another path, I would follow the path of the Anṣār, and if it were not that I have made hijrah, I would consider myself a member of the Anṣār. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says: Allāhumma ighfir li-l-Anṣār, wa-li-abnāʾi al-Anṣār, wa-li-abnāʾi abnāʾi al-Anṣār, wa-li-nisāʾi al-Anṣār — our Allah, forgive the Anṣār, and the children of the Anṣār, and the children of the children of the Anṣār, and the women of the Anṣār; this is in al-Bukhārī. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says: inna al-Anṣāra kirshī wa-ʿaybatī, wa-inna al-nāsa sa-yakthurūna wa-yaqillūn, fa-qbalū min muḥsinihim wa-tajāwazū ʿan sayyiʾihim — the Anṣār are my innermost circle and my confidants; people are going to increase and the Anṣār are going to decrease, because as more and more people become Muslim, the ratio of the Anṣār to the rest becomes fewer — so accept from the one of them who does good, and overlook the mistakes of the ones who commit them. In the name of Allah, I love the Anṣār — and then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: the Anṣār have done their part, now it is your turn — speaking to the rest of the people, telling them that the Anṣār have done what they needed to do, and it is now their turn to do that, to fulfil their duties toward this religion.

This is the part regarding the second important project of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in Madīnah, establishing a community based on brotherhood. It is clear from these ayāt, and from all that has been recounted, the importance of developing brotherhood among the Ummah. Shayṭān is always trying to disunite believers. The waswasah, the whispering insinuation, must be fought, and its presence recognised: there is someone plotting against believers being brothers, in order to fight that enemy, Shayṭān, who is always trying to cause disunity. A single word can be used by Shayṭān to cause a dispute between a Muslim and his brother. And that is why Allah (swt) says:
